U by Uniworld – See whats new

I have a habit of starting my blogs off, by saying I was very lucky to be invited… but in truth that is the case in all our travel trips – we are lucky, very lucky

Last Thursday Paul and I took a quick trip to Amsterdam to see for ourselves what the new concept in River Cruising was all about.

We are already big fans of the Uniworld product, a 5 star all-inclusive river cruise brand that already in our minds really delivers all any one could want and need from a river cruise. The attention to detail and the quality are of the highest level in every element of their cruise product on and off shore.

To hear that there is a new concept in River Cruising targeted at the younger market was indeed interesting to hear. I was left wondering how you could change people’s overall perception that river cruising is for old people. Because I am older and have been in the cruising world now for over 30 years, I do recall that over 20 years ago Ocean Cruising was correctly placed in the same older people category! So U By Uniworld aim is to be similar to cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean whom came into the UK market then and opened by cruising for all ages. The question is do U by Uniworld have the tools to achieve this?

Well I think they do. The B as the ship is named is fun funky, yet still elegant and extremely well appointed.
How can it be different? There is a great Ice Bar and I really loved the comfy seating area on top deck where in the lazy summer days they might even light the BBQ. In the ice bar they have cocktail making sessions and even a silent disco! You can enjoy access to the Gym 24 hours a day, take part in Yoga in the mornings or simply relax in the onboard Spa. The ports of call are vibrant cities of Europe and what is great about this product once you have finished you dinner you can head off into town for some fun. Don’t worry about an early breakfast as this has been thought of and on the days where a night in town is on the card next day they have arranged a nice lazy brunch!

Here is a little more from U by Uniworld themselves. With more from me at the end.

U by Uniworld is a new spin on river cruising with sexy, stylish ships that offer you exciting and adventurous experiences along Europe’s most popular rivers. Each ship has a funky rooftop bar, relaxing spa, mixologists, international DJ’s in an on board Ice Bar, yoga and fitness classes, cool lounges and a restaurant serving mouth-watering delights from the region.

You’ll enjoy longer stays in each destination, allowing you to connect with local people, experience the buzz of European cities and discover their vibrant nightlife. Cabins all have river views or balcony’s, built-in Bluetooth speakers and Savior® of England beds – the most comfortable you’ll ever sleep in!

Meals inspired by the places you’ll go, prepared by top chefs using fresh, locally sourced ingredients

Explore destinations with excursions that go off the beaten path and immerse you in the local culture

Unforgettable on board life complete with yoga, mixology classes, silent discos, themed parties and more

Your floating boutique hotel makes it extra easy to travel all over while only having to unpack once

In closing and just to share a few more of my photos, personally I see this really working. Its young, fun with great style and flair. Everything from sharing platters to a fun and funky design and what’s even better cities that we all want to visit. What else could our younger market want! I would highly recommend this holiday concept and would also say that I think it would be perfect for all those birthdays ending in a zero, 20th, 30th, 40th and even 50th, this would be a fab way to celebrate with friends.

About the Author
My first job in travel was when I was just 18 years old and I worked for Lunn Poly Business Travel, But when I moved to Premier Travel in Cambridge, as business development manager, my role involved me more and more with the cruise market. Gaining more experience in other sectors of the trade was necessary, before stepping off on my own and I joined Fred Olsen Travel as cruise development manager. “The confidence to set up my own business came from the work I did at Fred Olsen’s. The company is part of a multi-million pound cruise empire and the hunger and knowledge to grow the business was everything I wanted. It was Christmas 2009 when I finally realised that I had accumulated all the background and knowledge to do it for myself. So it’s now been over 3 years since I launched Ponders Cruise and Travel and I am exceptionally proud of what we have achieved to date and my passion for Ponders and delivering superb service and holidays to all our clients is still as intense as the first day we launched.
